Have you ever gone off to "Grad Night" at Disneyland with 2 bus loads full of kids, feeling absolutely ill the whole way down there, having severe stomach pains with continuous vomitting, only to find your self soon after entering the Happiest Place On Earth on an ambulance ride to the hospital? No? Me either, but my poor husband can now say that he has! For any of you who haven't caught wind of this doozy, Jeff's appendix burst while in California and his diagnosis of "gangrenous appendicitis" landed him an emergency appendectomy, and the topper is that since his case was rare and quite serious, he got to spend a whole week in an Anaheim hospital built in 1960, oh and one where the county has a "special contract"for all of the Maricopa County inmates to receive care, hence all the police presence in the hospital rooms 24/7 - neighboring sick patients who are hand cuffed to their beds is always a comforting touch for a hospital stay, don't you think? As far my accommodations went...I lived in a Holiday Inn with the moms for a week. Lovely. Needless to say, although it was a pretty draining and emotional week on many fronts, the good news is that the patient is finally home all safe and sound and he is healing slowly but surely. He is in great spirits and just happy to be back in the comfort of his own home, and city no less. The love and support from family, friends, students, and co-workers has been almost overwhelming but nonetheless completely appreciated. CHS was so amazing and for 2 days during school they held a "Miracle Minute For Mr. Johnson" fundraiser on his behalf to help offset our (at the moment astronomical) medical expenses and our oh so lovely extended stay in California. We are so grateful, THANK YOU FROM THE BOTTOM OF OUR HEARTS! And how cute are his students...the night we got home, much to our surprise they dropped off a homemade meal complete with desserts and other goodies and they totally decked out the entire outside of our house with a ton of hearts and a banner stretching across our garage door that read "We love you Mr. Johnson!" We for sure felt the love! And it wasn't all girls that pulled that one together either! :) Despite all the upset that this little ordeal caused, we feel blessed that Jeff made it through okay, will be back to good before we know it, and we truly realized that when things are at their very worst, people are at their very best. Thank you for all your love, support, prayers, well wishes, fund raising, cards, treats, and everything else in between!
